The Chicago White Sox have scratched right-hander Jake Peavy from his Tuesday night start against the Indians in order to better entertain trade offers on the veteran starter, reports Mike Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.

Peavy, 32, is arguably the best pitcher left on the trade market now that Matt Garza is off the table. He is believed to be drawing interest from a number of teams, including the Red Sox, Orioles and Cardinals. If the club felt it necessary to throw off his regular schedule, it must believe he could move before the night is over.

Now that he’s been scratched from his Tuesday night start, however, is seems fair to conclude that Chicago’s statements were more posturing than anything else. (Not much can be said yet about first-year GM Rick Hahn, but it seems he’s not very good at bluffing.)
In Peavy's stead, right-hander Andre Rienzo will make his MLB debut. While not a Top 100 prospect, the 25-year-old Rienzo is one of the club's most promising young pitchers, and is believed to be Peavy's long-term replacement should he change hands by Wednesday. The right-hander owns a 4.06 earned run average and has struck out exactly a batter per inning in 20 starts at Triple-A this season.
When Rienzo takes the mound Tuesday, he’ll become the first Brazilian player to pitch in the big leagues.
