Red Sox rumors: Boston will give up ‘whatever it takes’ to net Giancarlo Stanton

The Miami Marlins have not shown any signs of budging from their position that outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is unavailable, but that hasn't stopped teams from trying. The Boston Red Sox are the latest team to join the Stanton fray, and are reportedly willing to do "whatever it takes" to get the young slugger to Fenway, reports Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

The Red Sox have a stacked farm system at the moment, so they certainly have the ability to make an overwhelming offer if they so choose. Whether or not the Marlins would bite on the players Boston has to offer remains to be seen. The Rangers and Pirates -- who also boast a bevy of promising prospects -- have been persistent in asking Miami about Stanton, but both have received a resounding "no" thus far.

Frisaro speculates that anyone wanting to acquire Stanton -- who has three years of team control remaining -- will have to offer at least four or five prospects to catch the Marlins' ear. Boston's top prospect, shortstop Xander Bogaerts, is an incredibly valuable commodity, and the club also has outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to dangle as an outfield replacement for Stanton.
