The D'Backs have reportedly lost interest because Brandon McCarthy and Trevor Cahill are set to return to the rotation soon, making the addition of Peavy unnecessary. It's unclear why the Cards have stepped out of the sweepstakes, but Rosenthal reports that the club is not currently in discussions with the White Sox.
Norris scratched, Pittsburgh-bound?
All signs point to Houston trading the right-hander on Tuesday. Pittsburgh appears the likely destination.The White Sox seem to believe they will deal Peavy before the night is through -- why else would they scratch him from his Tuesday start? -- but just where he'll go now that his market seems to be paper-thin is anyone's guess. The right-hander has been tied to the Red Sox and Orioles recently, but Boston seems to be more interested in Cliff Lee at the moment and Baltimore already added Scott Feldman to the rotation.
John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus reports that the Pirates have “at least discussed the parameters” of a deal that would net them Peavy and Alexei Ramirez in exchange for prospects Jameson Taillon and Alex Dickerson, along with a PTBNL, but it’s unclear whether that deal is still on the table.
Peavy, 32, is under contract through 2014, so anyone looking to acquire him will likely have to give up a pretty good package of prospects. The right-hander’s Cy Young days are far behind him, but his 4.00 earned run average and eight strikeouts per nine in his four-plus years with the White Sox are nothing to balk at.
