Jake Peavy traded to Red Sox in 3-way deal

The Red Sox swooped in on the Jake Peavy sweepstakes late Thursday and nabbed the 32-year-old righty from the White Sox. The Tigers are involved as well in the seven-player deal.

The Boston Red Sox acquired starting pitcher Jake Peavy from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night in a three-team deal that includes the Detroit Tigers, according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.

Peavy, 32, has a 4.28 ERA in 13 starts this season, striking out 8.6 batters per nine innings while walking just 1.9. The one-time Cy Young winner got his career back on track a year ago, going 11-12 with a 3.37 ERA -- his lowest since 2009 -- in 32 starts for the White Sox.

The Red Sox swooped in late in the Peavy sweepstakes after talks with the Philadelphia Phillies regarding Cliff Lee dissolved. Peavy was rumored to be part of a potential three-way deal between the White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but that never got off the ground.

Red Sox infielder Jose Iglesias is reportedly headed to the Tigers, per CBS Sports' Danny Knobler. It is not yet known what the White Sox will receive in the deal, though Tigers outfielder Avisail Garcia was removed from a Triple-A game earlier in the evening.

Update: Jon Heyman of CBS reports Garcia is headed to the White Sox, via the Red Sox.

Update 2: Right-handed relief pitcher Brayan Villarreal has been sent from the Tigers to the Red Sox. The White Sox will receive Garcia, shortstop Cleuluis Rondon and pitchers Frank Montas and JB Wendelken.
