Around the Bases: Qualls falls, Villar steals home (and our hearts)

Brewers 6, Cubs 5: A four-run seventh by the Brewers overcame a five-run fifth by the Cubs, giving the Brewers the win in the first game of a doubleheader. Home runs from Jean Segura, Khris Davis, and, yes, Yuniesky Betancourt paced Milwaukee. Yovani Gallardo gave up three earned runs in 4⅓ innings pitched for the Brewers.

Brewers 3, Cubs 2: In what could be his last game as a Cub, Kevin Gregg blew the save as the Brewers squeaked by the Cubs again. Don't worry, Cubs fans, your team didn't have the worst doubleheader performance of the day. Keep reading!

Pirates 6, Cardinals 0: The second game was a different story. The Pirates sent the young Brandon Cumpton to the hill, and he shut the Cardinals down for seven innings. The Pirates are now 1.5 games up in the NL Central, and the Cardinals just learned Yadier Molina will hit the disabled list with a knee injury.

Indians 7, White Sox 4: The headline in this was Brazilian-born pitcher Andre Rienzo making his MLB debut for the White Sox and allowing no earned runs over seven innings. The Indians were able to win this one with a four-run eighth inning, and they are now 10 games over .500.

Orioles 4, Astros 3: Chris Davis, just enough pitching, one-run win, typical Orioles.

Phillies 7, Giants 3: The Phillies won on the strength of a solid start from John Lannan and run support from Michael Young (2-for-4 with a HR). Two teams that don't want to sell, yet should probably sell.

Tigers 5, Nationals 1: Alex Avila hit a grand slam, and that was really all the necessary offense for Detroit. One run over eight innings for Anibal Sanchez was enough for the win.

Rays 5, Diamondbacks 2: Roberto Hernandez threw a two-run complete game and the Rays offense supplied him with five runs. Yunel Escobar homered, and rookie-sensation Wil Myers drove in two.

Braves 11, Rockies 3: Alex Wood allowed three runs over seven innings and Freddie Freeman hit two home runs. Brian McCann chipped in with a home run of his own.

Mets 4, Marlins 2: Zack Wheeler was excellent for the Mets, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning. John Buck gave the Mets the lead in the 10th inning when he hit a go-ahead two-run single.

Red Sox 8, Mariners 2: Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and Jarrod Saltalamacchia all homered and the Red Sox cruised.

Royals 7, Twins 2: Mike Moustakas hit two home runs and the Royals are now over .500. Dayton Moore was right.

Blue Jays 5, Athletics 0: Mark Buehrle and the Blue Jays cruised to a win over the Athletics. Josh Reddick had to leave the game early after being kicked in the head, so hopefully he will not miss much time.

Rangers 14, Angels 11 (10 innings): Leonys Martin hit a three-run walk-off home run to power Texas to a come-from-behind win. The Rangers had been down to their final out in the ninth before Ian Kinsler walked and stole second, and Adrian Beltre drove him in to knot the game at 11-11. Mike Trout went 4-for-4 with three runs in the losing effort.

Dodgers 3, Yankees 2: Los Angeles just keeps winning -- this time on a Mark Ellis walk-off single in the ninth inning. With a fourth win, the Dodgers are 9-1 in their last 10 and now hold a 3.5 game lead over a Diamondbacks club that keeps losing. Andy Pettitte gave up two runs in seven innings for New York but didn't get a decision out of it.

Padres 4, Reds 2: Nick Hundley drove in a pair of runs with an eighth-inning double, giving the Padres their only lead of the night. The Reds managed to get the game-tying run to the plate with no outs in the ninth against Huston Street, but couldn't break through. He saved his 20th game of the season.
