Rangers rumors: Matt Garza included in list of available players

When the club said that all of their players were in play, they meant everybody.

Remember how everyone was bummed that the deadline's biggest trade chip, right-hander Matt Garza, came off the market so early? Well, maybe he didn't.

The Texas Rangers have made "virtually all" of their players available as the trade deadline pushes ever closer, and that includes the newly acquired Garza, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Texas acquired Garza just last week for a pretty huge package of prospects, so turning around and dealing him somewhere else right away seems rather unlikely. It is the trade deadline, however, and weirder things have happened in much less desperate times, so don’t count it out.

With a PED suspension on the horizon for right fielder Nelson Cruz -- not to mention Lance Berkman considering early retirement -- Texas is in need of a power bat to help supplement his loss. The Rangers continue to "shake the trees" -- whatever that means -- in their search for a bat, per Jim Bowden of ESPN, and Garza may be one of the players they're... uh... shaking.

Garza, 29, has made two starts for Texas since joining the club early last week, allowing just four runs over 14⅓ innings. The right-hander, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, owns a 2.95 earned-run average in 13 starts on the year.
