The Chicago White Sox will promote catcher Josh Phegley to the big-league squad on Friday, according to CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes. Phegley's call-up corresponds with Chicago's decision to designate catcher Hector Gimenez for assignment on Thursday.
Josh Phegley to be promoted by White Sox Friday
Josh Phegley will bring his power stroke to the big-league level for the White Sox, who haven’t received good production from their backstops in 2013.

Phegley, 25, is hitting .316/.368/.597 with 15 home runs in a repeat year at Triple-A Charlotte. He wasn’t listed as one of Chicago’s top 10 prospects by Baseball America or Baseball Prospectus entering the season, but Phegley’s solid first half in the International League helped him earn a spot on the U.S. roster for the 2013 MLB All-Star Futures Game.
The White Sox also optioned outfielder Jordan Danks to Triple-A, the team announced after the game. They'll announce a corresponding move for that transaction on Friday, manager Robin Ventura told Hayes.
Phegley will compete for playing time with Tyler Flowers, who has started 62 games behind the dish and is hitting .206/.259/.373 with eight home runs in 220 plate appearances.
