Mets to recall Ike Davis from Triple-A, per reports

Ike Davis’ minor league exile is over. He will rejoin the Mets on Friday in Milwaukee.

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets have recalled first baseman Ike Davis from the minor leagues, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York. Andy Martino of the New York Daily News later confirmed the report. Davis is expected to join the Mets on Friday during their road trip to Milwaukee. There is no word on who will be sent down to free up a roster spot.

Davis was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas on June 10 during a massive slump, hitting just .161/.242/.258 with five home runs and 66 strikeouts in 207 plate appearances. In addition to his demotion, the Mets also sent down left-handed pitcher Robert Carson and outfielder Mike Baxter.

Since arriving in Las Vegas, Davis revamped his hitting mechanics and his numbers improved, as he hit .293/.424/.667 with seven homers in 92 plate appearances.

Josh Satin has been filling in at first base since Davis' demotion, hitting .353 and reaching base in 14 straight games. It's unknown how manager Terry Collins plans to handle playing time with Davis back.
