Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki could return to the team before the All-Star break, Ian McCue of MLB.com notes.

Tulowitzki took batting practice before Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, his first batting practice since breaking a rib three weeks ago. The original timetable for Tulowitzki return to the Rockies was 4-6 weeks, per the Associated Press.

The shortstop talked about his injury with McCue, telling the reporter:

“There could be three or four days where I feel great and say, ‘Hey, let’s go on the rehab assignment. It could be another week or two where, ‘Hey, now this thing feels good,’ after the [All-Star] break. I just don’t know”

Tulowitzki swung the bat well before landing on the DL, hitting .347/.413/.635 with 16 homers and 51 RBI n 252 plate appearances. Thanks to his strong hitting and defense, Fangraphs credits Tulowitzki with 3.9 WAR, the fourth-highest WAR among position players in the National League.

Colorado is 42-44 on the season, but enters Friday 2 1/2 games back of the Arizona Diamondbacks for first place in the NL West. A healthy Tulo would greatly improve the team as they try to contend for a division title.
