Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Clay Buchholz has increased his throwing program as he continues to rehab from a neck strain, according to Michael Periatt of MLB.com.
Clay Buchholz injury update: RHP increasing throwing program
The starter is not expected to return to Boston until after the All-Star break.

Buchholz threw 75 feet from flat ground on Wednesday, and threw 90 feet prior to Thursday’s game. Boston will have the starter throw 15 feet farther each day until he can return to the mound.
Red Sox manager John Farrell discussed Buchholz’s rehab program with Periatt, telling the reporter:
“We expect the same type of intensity today with a little bit more distance. That will be three consecutive days of throwing and tomorrow’s a planned no-throw day or just a little light catch day for him. So the next progressive step after Friday would be to get out to 120 feet or 105 feet. We tend to add 15 feet to each throwing session. Most importantly is how he’s feeling this morning after a good workday yesterday.”
The pitcher is expected to make two rehab starts before returning to the team, making it unlikely he rejoins the rotation until after the All-Star break.
Buchholz made 12 starts for Boston before heading to the DL, going 9-0 with a 1.71 ERA. The right-hander has increased his strikeout rate, fanning 81 batters over 84 1/3 innings, and has only surrendered two home runs this season.
