Matt Garza rumors: Chicago Cubs ‘making progress’ in discussions

The Cubs are discussing Garza with numerous teams, including the Rangers and the Red Sox

USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs are "making progress," in their discussions about trading Matt Garza, Buster Olney of ESPN.com is reporting.

The Cubs are actively talking with the Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians, and the Los Angeles Dodgers about the starter, and may be talking with the Baltimore Orioles and more of the NL West teams as well, according to Olney. Olney also stated that Garza is considered "the belle of the ball" currently on the trade market.

Garza started for the Cubs on Wednesday, tossing eight strong innings against the Oakland Athletics. The starter is 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA over his last four starts, reestablishing himself as the top starting pitcher currently available after starting the season on the DL.

The Cubs have already started selling, trading Scott Feldman to the Baltimore Orioles and Carlos Marmol to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Garza is scheduled to pitch for the Cubs on Monday against the Chicago White Sox.
