Matt Kemp injury: Dodgers OF expected to miss a few days with shoulder issue

Kemp swung at and missed a Matt Cain pitch Friday and immediately felt pain in his left shoulder.

Just when it seemed the Los Angeles Dodgers were finally getting healthy, outfielder Matt Kemp suffered a shoulder injury during Friday's game and is expected to miss a few days, reports Jon Weisman of Dodgers Thoughts.

During an at-bat in the second inning, Kemp dropped his bat and began favoring his left shoulder following a swing and miss.

The injury was diagnosed as shoulder irritation. Kemp had labrum surgery on the same shoulder during the offseason, but the current soreness is reportedly not in the same location.

Kemp was quoted in an MLB.com article talking about the injury.

”This is the first time I felt this. I felt a little pop in my AC joint. Some players have told me that’s pretty common after having labrum surgery. Sometimes your AC joint can get a little irritated.

Kemp also said the pain was not something he had felt in the past.

"I got a cortisone shot and it's calmed down a little right now. So hopefully in the next couple of days I'll be ready to go. It's day-to-day. It was very scary. I've never felt anything like that in my shoulder before."

Kemp, 28, has struggled at the plate this season. He is slashing just .254/.309/.357 with just four home runs in 61 games.

The oft-injured Kemp also missed time earlier in the season when he suffered a hamstring injury that required a disabled list stint.
