David DeJesus injury: Cubs OF hitting off tee

DeJesus has been out since mid-June with a sprained right shoulder, but he does not have a timeframe for his return.

Injured Chicago Cubs outfielder David DeJesus has been hitting off a tee and is able to lift his arm above his head, reports MLB.com.

DeJesus has been on the disabled list with a sprained right shoulder he suffered after crashing into the outfield wall on June 14. Original best-case scenario estimates had DeJesus returning in three weeks from the time of the injury. That will, of course, not be possible anymore.

At the time of the injury, Cubs manager Dale Sveum said DeJesus should be back in time for the July 31 trade deadline. DeJesus has been rumored to be available for prospects.

DeJesus, 33, has hit .260/.318/.445 in 59 games this season. The Cubs do not have an official timetable for his return.

Ryan Sweeney had been playing center field with DeJesus out, but he suffered a fractured rib July 1 and has been placed on the 60-day DL. Brian Bogusevic, Julio Borbon and Dave Sappelt have all spent time in center field since Sweeney's injury.
