St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright will not be available to pitch in the All-Star Game on July 16 because of a schedule adjustment made by the team, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The St. Louis Cardinals adjusted their starting rotation to have their ace, Adam Wainwright, make two starts prior to the All-Star break instead of pitching in the annual exhibition.

The Cardinals changed their rotation in order to allow Wainwright two more starts before the All-Star break. His second start is set to take place on the Sunday before the All-Star Game, which has historically rendered pitchers unavailable for the midsummer classic.
Wainwright is 11-5 with a 2.36 ERA, leads all NL hurlers in innings pitched with 133 ⅔ and has allowed the fewest walks per nine innings of any big-league starter with 0.9. Those numbers suggest he’s a near-certainty to be selected to the NL All-Star team, meaning his potential absence from the game would open up an additional roster spot.
The All-Star teams for both leagues will be announced on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
