MLB All-Star Game 2013 roster: Miguel Cabrera heads American League squad

Miguel Cabrera may not have finished as the leading vote-getter, but he will headline the AL’s starting lineup in the All-Star Game.

USA TODAY Sports

The American League roster for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game was announced during the selection show on Saturday, and Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera will headline the AL squad as he makes his eighth All-Star appearance.

Cabrera, the 2012 AL MVP, will anchor a very powerful starting lineup. Heading into Saturday's game, Cabrera was hitting .361/.451/.663. He leads MLB in batting average and RBIs, and is second in home runs to Chris Davis. Cabrera will be joined by a few teammates, as Prince Fielder, Jhonny Peralta, Torii Hunter, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander were also named to the team.

Davis, who boasts an MLB-leading 33 home runs, finished as the leading vote-getter after surpassing Cabrera late in the week. Davis will be one of three Orioles in the starting lineup, as J.J. Hardy will start at shortstop and Adam Jones will start in center field.

Fans will be able to cast their votes through Thursday for one of Joaquin Benoit, Steve Delabar, David Robertson, Tanner Scheppers or Koji Uehara, each of whom were picked as the AL's Final Vote candidates.
