San Diego Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal left Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals after suffering a right knee sprain in the third inning. Anthony Rendon slid into Grandal's right leg on a force play at home, and he looked to be in serious pain before he was helped off the field, putting no weight on his right leg.
Yasmani Grandal injury: Padres C suffers right knee sprain
The Nationals’ Anthony Rendon slid into Grandal in a play at home plate.

Grandal will be reevaluated after the game, U-T San Diego reports.
Grandal was replaced in the game by Nick Hundley. Following the loss of Grandal, the Padres are very thin at the catcher position and will likely have to add another to the roster. MLB.com's Corey Brock speculated that it would be Rene Rivera, the starting catcher for the Padres' Tucson affiliate, that gets the call.
In 27 games for the Padres in 2013, Grandal has a .218 batting average with one home run and nine RBIs. He finished with a .297 average in 2012.
