Manny Ramirez debuts with Rangers’ AAA club

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk making his debut with the Round Rock Express.

USA TODAY Sports

Manny Ramirez, hoping to make a comeback this season with the Texas Rangers, made his debut for the Triple-A Round Rock Express, writes Trey Scott of MLB.com.

Ramirez faced Kansas City Royals prospect Yordano Ventura in his first at-bat, and looped the first pitch he saw into rightfield for a single. The right-handed hitter finished the game 1-for-3 with a walk.

Ramirez talked about his first game back with Scott, telling the reporter:

“Not bad for not playing in two weeks or facing a pitcher. I’ve got to make some adjustments. Haven’t faced a guy in two weeks and [Ventura’s] throwing 100.”

The 41-year-old spent most of 2013 with the EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan. Ramirez hit .352 with eight homers and 43 RBI over 49 games before leaving the team on June 19.

The slugger has not played in MLB since 2011, when he went 1-for-17 with the Tampa Bay Rays before announcing his retirement after being served a 100-game suspension for failing a drug test.
