Roy Oswalt injury: Rockies to place RHP on DL with strained hamstring

Oswalt is expected to miss several weeks while recovering from the injury.

The Colorado Rockies will place starting pitcher Roy Oswalt on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring, reports Troy Renck of the Denver Post.

Oswalt injured his left hamstring covering home plate after a wild pitch against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The injury is expected to sideline the veteran for several weeks.

More Rockies: A disaster in Arizona

The right-handed pitcher went 0-4 for the Rockies, posting a 7.64 ERA over 17 2/3 innings. Oswalt has shown some of his dominant stuff, striking out 23 batters while only issuing two walks, but owns a BABIP of .491.

The Rockies have not announced who they will recall to replace Oswalt on the roster. Renck speculates that the team may recall a position player or a reliever until another starter is needed.

Colorado is also interested in acquiring a starting pitcher before the trade deadline, per Renck. The team sent the Miami Marlins an offer for Ricky Nolasco, but ownership was unwilling to pay the entirety of Nolasco's salary.
