Brandon Beachy set to make rehab start on Tuesday

The starter will make his first rehab start since being shut down three weeks ago with shoulder inflammation.

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Brandon Beachy will make a rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnet on Tuesday, writes David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Beachy threw a 50-pitch bullpen session on Saturday, and has had no issues since the session. The starter originally planned to return to the team on June 18, but had his rehab assignment shut down three weeks ago with inflammation in his right elbow.

The right-handed pitcher underwent Tommy John surgery over a year ago. Beachy made 13 starts for the Braves in 2012 before the injury sidelined him, posting a 2.00 ERA over 81 innings.

Beachy is expected to make two or three rehab starts before returning to Atlanta. When he does return to the roster, the Braves will have some difficult decisions to make. Mike Minor, Tim Hudson, Julio Teheran, Paul Maholm and Kris Medlen have all performed well in the starting rotation, but someone will need to move to the bullpen or possibly traded to clear space for Beachy.
