White Sox outfielder Alex Rios had six hits Tuesday night against the Tigers, which made him the fifth player in franchise history to have as many in a nine inning game (per Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago). Rios also tied the AL record for most hits in a nine inning game, becoming the 32nd player since 1916 to accomplish the feat (per Dave Hogg of Fox Sports Detroit).

Even more impressive, Rios recorded four of the six hits off Tigers ace Justin Verlander, who had never allowed four hits to a batter in a single game.
Milwaukee's Jean Segura was the only other hitter in the major leagues this year to have six hits in a game, as he went 6-for-7 on May 28.
Five of Rios’ hits were singles, with the other being a triple off Verlander. For Rios, who is batting just .267 this season, this outburst certainly comes as a bit of a surprise. The White Sox, who have struggled greatly this season, ended the game with 23 hits combined as a team, so Rios was not the only surprise tonight.
