Biogenesis: Federal probe into Anthony Bosch’s actions underway

Major League Baseball isn’t the only organization looking into Biogenesis. Now, the federal government is getting involved as well.

Handout

For months, Major League Baseball has been investigating Biogenesis for the company’s dealings with baseball players. That’s changing though, now that the federal government has opened up an investigation of its own following reports that the drugs were being sold to high school athletes as well as professionals, according to the Miami Herald.

The information regarding sale to high school athletes came from former Biogenesis marketing director Porter Fischer, who had apparently become irritated at the low level of interest from the government compared to MLB investigators. Anthony Bosch, the man in charge of Biogenesis, had previously attempted to work out a “trade” of sorts with MLB, in which he would allow it access to his records if MLB would help him avoid large-scale litigation.

MLB cannot completely shield Bosch from prosecution, but if the federal government is coming after him, it probably won’t be much help at all.
