The Oakland Athletics recalled pitcher Sonny Gray from Triple-A Sacramento to start against the Blue Jays on Saturday, reports Jane Lee of MLB.com. To make room for him on the active roster, the Athletics designated infielder Adam Rosales for assignment.

Gray will be making his first career major league start. The Athletics had called up Gray earlier this season for a very brief stint in the team’s bullpen. He made two appearances, tossing a total of four innings. Gray allowed two hits and struck out six batters over that period.

It is expected that Gray will remain in the team's rotation for the foreseeable future. Oakland has been without a fifth starter since demoting Tommy Milone to the minors last week.
Gray, who throws right handed, was in the midst of perhaps his best career season in the minor leagues. Over 20 starts for Sacramento, he has a 3.42 ERA and 1.318 WHIP. In addition, he had a career high 9.0 K/9 to go along with a 3.0 BB/9.
The 23-year-old former first-round draft pick was named the 65th best prospect nation-wide by Baseball America prior to the 2013 season.
This is the third time in 11 days that Rosales has been designated for assignment. He had been with the Athletics for most of the season, but was designated at the end of July and claimed off waivers by the Rangers. Texas in turn DFA'd the 30-year-old before he played in a major league game with the team, and Oakland re-claimed the infielder.
Rosales has hit .191/.267/.316 over 51 games this season and has a career .622 OPS.
