Howie Kendrick injury: Angels 2B lands on 15-day with sprained left knee

Howie Kendrick will miss a couple of weeks with a knee injury during what has been one of his best seasons as a big leaguer.

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed second baseman Howie Kendrick on the 15-day disabled list Friday after soreness in his left knee failed to subside during the week, according to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez.

For more on the Angels, head over to Halos Heaven.

Kendrick was hurt during Monday's loss to the Texas Rangers after colliding with right fielder Collin Cowgill while attempting to catch a short fly ball. Kendrick underwent an MRI that showed no structural damage, but the knee hasn't felt well enough for him to take the field since the collision.

The 30-year-old was hitting .301/.341/.437 with 31 extra-base hits at the time of the injury, showing the form that made him an All-Star in 2011.

It’s Kendrick’s trip to the DL is his first since May of 2011, but he’ll be eligible to return to action on Aug. 21.

The Angels are expected to announce a corresponding move prior to their game against the Cleveland Indians on Saturday, per Gonzalez.
