Cardinals recall Michael Wacha, option Carlos Martinez to Triple-A
The Cardinals swapped out one rookie starter for another rookie starter on Saturday.

Wacha made three starts for the Cardinals in his previous big-league stint, posting a 4.50 ERA while striking out 7.1 batters per nine innings. He was optioned to the minors after his start on June 11 against the New York Mets, though, after allowing two runs in six innings of work.
The 22-year-old Iowa native has posted similar peripherals in 85 minor league innings, but allowing just 65 hits has contributed to Wacha’s solid 2.65 ERA in Triple-A.
After 10 relief appearances to begin his big-league career, Martinez made his first start for the Cardinals on Thursday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was roughed up, though, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks while failing to get out of the fifth inning.
Martinez owns a 1.87 ERA in 13 starts across two minor league stops this season.
