Around the Bases: Marlins snap Braves 14-game win streak

Marlins 1, Braves 0: The Braves lost to the last-place Marlins, ending their 14-game winning streak. Adeiny Hechavarria led off the top of the ninth inning with a single and scored on a Jordan Walden wild pitch:

Nathan Eovaldi only allowed one hit over seven innings, matching his career high with eight strikeouts.

Blue Jays 5, Athletics 4: Jose Bautista and Jose Reyes each hit home runs, to power Toronto to victory. Josh Reddick hit a pair of homers for Oakland after hitting three home runs on Friday, making him the second Athletics player to hit five home runs in two games. Mark McGwire did it twice, most recently in June 1995.

Tigers 9, Yankees 3: Detroit exploded for nine runs on 17 hits, battering Phil Hughes and a trio of Yankees relievers. Torii Hunter led the team with four RBI, while Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-5, hitting a solo home run despite playing on a bandaged leg. Austin Jackson followed his four-hit, three double performance Friday night with a homer and a triple.

Dodgers 5, Rays 0: Zack Greinke scattered six hits across 6⅓ shutout innings, striking out seven while walking none. Adrian Gonzalez ended a 16-game homerless drought with a two-run blast in the third, while Skip Schumaker led the team with four hits.

White Sox 5, Twins 4: Conor Gillaspie lined the go-ahead single in the sixth inning, helping the White Sox defeat the Twins for just the third time this season. Jordan Danks smacked a solo homer, while Paul Konerko went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Avisail Garcia made his first start for Chicago, finishing 1-for-4.

Angels 7, Indians 2: The Indians committed a season-high four errors to lose their sixth straight game. C.J. Wilson earned his 12th win of the season, holding Cleveland to two runs on seven hits over 5⅓ innings. Mike Trout reached base safely for the 40th straight game, the second longest on-base streak in Angels history.

Giants 3, Orioles 2: Hunter Pence lined a two-run double in the sixth, giving the Giants pitching staff just enough run support to earn the victory. Chad Gaudin only allowed one run on two hits over five innings, striking out six while walking three.

Werth finished with three hits and three RBI, while Anthony Rendon plated a pair of runs. Tanner Roark pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Taylor Jordan to earn his first major-league win.

Red Sox 5, Royals 3: Jacoby Ellsbury led the Boston offense with four hits, collecting a pair of RBI doubles while stealing his league-leading 42nd base of the season. Boston snapped Jeremy Guthrie's four-start win streak, forcing the veteran to throw a season-high 123 pitches. Koji Uehara turned in a perfect ninth to earn his 12th save in 15 chances.

Mets 4, Diamondbacks 1: Wilmer Flores drove in three runs, giving the rookie eight RBI in his first five games. Will Flores-mania sweep the nation?

Zack Wheeler held the Diamondbacks to one run on six hits over 6⅓ inning, earning the second win of his career.

Rangers 5, Astros 4: Alex Rios made a strong first impression with the Rangers, tying the game with an RBI-triple in the eighth and scoring the game-winning run later in the inning. Elvis Andrus and A.J. Pierzynski both went deep for Texas, which won its sixth straight game.

Padres 3, Reds 1: The Reds committed four errors, leading to a pair of unearned runs that helped the Padres snap a three-game losing streak. Will Venable hit a solo blast, home run No. 15 of the year. Tyson Ross held Cincinnati to one run on four hits while fanning six over seven innings.

Brewers 10, Mariners 0: Scooter Gennett capped Milwaukee's six-run seventh inning with a three-run bomb, as the Brewers routed the Mariners. Tom Gorzelanny held the Mariners scoreless for seven frames, only surrendering three hits.

Cubs 6, Cardinals 5: Dioner Navarro hit a pinch-hit RBI double to cap a three-run rally in the eighth inning and help the Cubs win a series against the Cardinals in St. Louis for the first time since Sept. 13-15, 2010. Darwin Barney tied the game with a two-run double in the eighth, while Nate Schierholtz singled in a key insurance run in the ninth. The Cardinals had rookie Michael Wacha make a spot start; the right-hander allowed two runs on five hits over five innings.

Rockies 6, Pirates 4: Colorado batted around in a five-run sixth, collecting five of the team's 10 hits in the frame. Dexter Fowler finished 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI, while Wilin Rosario also had a multi-hit performance. Rex Brothers surrendered a run and two hits, but held on for his ninth save of the season.
