The Atlanta Braves activated catcher Gerald Laird from the disabled list Sunday, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Outfielder Todd Cunningham was sent back to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room on the active roster.

Laird has been out for two weeks while suffering from a kidney stone. After attempting to pass the stone naturally for a few days, he had a common surgical procedure to remove it on July 31. While the team had originally thought he would only need a few days to recover, the decision was made to place Laird on the DL when they activated B.J. Upton.
The Braves will keep Laird in the familiar role of backing up starting catcher Brian McCann. Laird has handled those duties well, and has hit .293/.384/.400 over 28 games in 2013 thus far.
Cunningham picked up two hits in six at-bats in his brief major league call-up. All six at-bats came in the late innings as a pinch-hitter and defensive replacement.
