Angel Pagan injury: Giants OF close to rehab assignment, Bruce Bochy says

The Giants are hopeful that Pagan will return to the team by September.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Angel Pagan is close to starting a rehab assignment, manager Bruce Bochy told Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News.

Pagan has been out with a left hamstring injury since May 25. The outfielder attempted to rehab and return to the team in June, but re-injured his hamstring during his first minor-league game. Pagan underwent surgery on June 24, and is currently working out in extended Spring Training.

The Giants are not in the playoff hunt, sitting 14 games behind the red-hot Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. Bochy still wants Pagan to return to the field this season, telling Pavlovic:

“It’s important that he plays. I’d like him to go into the winter feeling confident and good about the surgery. He can take away any doubts that could creep in.”

Bochy is hopeful that Pagan can return to the team around Sept. 1.

San Francisco started the season 27-22, but have gone 25-42 since Pagan originally suffered the injury. Pagan served as the team’s primary center fielder and leadoff man, hitting .262/.314/.374 with three home runs and six stolen bases.
