News keeps getting worse for A-Rod.

Alex Rodriguez was still searching for a way to enhance his performance as recently as 2012. According to a report from New York Daily News, Rodriguez met with Victor Conte, the former head of BALCO, last spring to try and find a legal way to boost his performance.

Conte spent four months in prison for his role in the steroid conspiracy that involved Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi and others. He said Rodriguez attempted to meet with him numerous times through Bill Romonowski. Conte met with MLB investigators last week to explain the situation.

Conte said that he is trying to work with the MLB to improve its drug program and that he has been wanting to do so for some time. Weighing in on Rodriguez seems to be his first order of business.

According to the report, Rodriguez was secretive about his meeting with Conte, telling him that it would be bad if the media found out. Well, he’s right about that.

Rodriguez is currently appealing a suspension that would keep him out of baseball through the 2014 season.
