A Northern California resident claimed to be responsible for throwing the banana that landed near Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones near the end of the team's 10-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park on Sunday.
Fan apologizes to Adam Jones for banana, says it wasn’t racial
A Giants fan stepped forward on Monday and took responsibility for the banana heard ‘round the world. The fan claims the “indiscretion” was not racially motivated.

Alexander Poulides told the San Jose Mercury News that he grabbed a banana from a nearby catering cart and tossed it onto the field in frustration, and that the action was not racially motivated. Poulides apologized through the publication for what he referred to as “an indiscretion.”
“I’m embarrassed and shocked by the outcome. In hindsight, I wish I didn’t do it and I apologize. I’m very sorry.”
After the game, Jones took to Twitter to call out the fan who threw the object:
I want to thank whatever slapdick threw that banana towards my direction in CF in the last inning. Way to show ur class u jackass.

As of 9 p.m. ET on Monday, the tweet was still up, and Jones has yet to issue a response. The Giants apologized to Jones through a statement earlier on Monday:
“We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Adam and the entire Orioles organization for this unfortunate incident. The inappropriate actions of this individual in no way reflect the values of our organization and our fans.”
The Orioles are in action in Phoenix, Ariz., on Monday night against the Diamondbacks.
