The Oakland Athletics placed starting pitcher Bartolo Colon on the 15-day disabled list, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Bartolo Colon injury: Athletics RHP placed on DL with groin strain
Tommy Millone will replace Colon in the starting rotation.

Colon strained his left groin while doing flat-ground work Friday, which prompted trainer Nick Paparesta to halt the throwing session. The veteran still felt sore Saturday, forcing the decision.
The right-hander has been excellent for Oakland this season, going 14-5 with a 2.97 ERA. Colon, however, has struggled in his past two starts, surrendering 10 runs over 6 2/3 innings while seeing his velocity decrease.
Considering Colon’s recent struggles, a break may not be the worst option for the starter. Athletics manager Bob Melvin discussed the issue, stating:
“He certainly doesn’t want to (rest), he wants to make every start he can. Based on the fact he’s had a great season for us and he’s a guy we’ve leaned on pretty hard and has 14 wins to this point, it’s not easy. You always want him to be able to pitch, but maybe with his age and so forth, a little breat at this point in time might be good for him.”
Oakland promoted Tommy Milone to replace Colon, and Milone will start against the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. Milone has made 22 starts for the Athletics this year, going 9-9 with a 4.39 ERA.
