Around the Bases: Dodgers cap off historic 50-game stretch, Miguel Cabrera hits a walk-off homer

Red Sox 6, Yankees 1: John Lackey turned in another quality start, holding the Yankees to one run on six hits over 6⅔ innings to help the Red Sox snap a three-game losing streak. Lackey leads Boston with 14 quality starts after missing all of 2012 rehabbing from elbow surgery. Jacoby Ellsbury led the Red Sox with three hits, while David Ortiz smashed his 24th home run of the season.

Diamondbacks 15, Pirates 5: The Diamondbacks' offense torched the Pirates, collecting 20 hits against the NL Central leaders. Martin Prado went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer, while Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run blast of his own. The home run was No. 30 on the season for Goldschmidt, tying him with Pedro Alvarez for the NL lead.

Cardinals 4, Cubs 0: Joe Kelly won his fourth straight decision, tossing six shutout innings while striking out six. Yadier Molina hit a double and a home run in his second game back off the 15-day disabled list, while Carlos Beltran added an RBI double. Chicago manager Dale Sveum removed Starlin Castro from the game after the shortstop made a mental mistake, allowing Jon Jay to score on a shallow popout to left field:

Orioles 8, Rockies 4: The Orioles scored seven runs in the third inning, taking advantage of a number of Colorado miscues: a Troy Tulowitzki error, a pair of walks, a passed ball and a wild patch. Brian Roberts and Manny Machado both hit two-run doubles in the inning, while Adam Jones and Nick Markakis added RBI-singles. Bud Norris improved to 3-1 with the Orioles, helping Baltimore snap a four-game losing streak.

Giants 6, Marlins 4: The Giants scored four two-out runs in the top of the fourth inning, which started with a Pablo Sandoval RBI infield single. Buster Posey later scored on a balk, while Gregor Blanco plated a pair of runs with a triple. Matt Cain threw seven strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five.

Dodgers 5, Phillies 0: The Dodgers won their 10th straight game and improved to 42-8 since June 22, the best 50-game stretch since the 1942 Cardinals had the same record. Clayton Kershaw tossed eight shutout innings, only surrendering three hits while fanning eight. Kershaw doubled in a run in the fifth, while Juan Uribe smacked a three-run homer in the ninth.

Brewers 2, Reds 0: Yovani Gallardo outdueled Mat Latos in his first start off the disabled list, shutting out the Reds for 6⅓ innings. Latos countered with a quality start of his own, holding Milwaukee to two runs on six hits over seven innings. Logan Schafer drove in both runs for the Brewers, hitting an RBI double in the fourth.

White Sox 8, Twins 5: Chris Sale won his third straight start for the first time this season, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out eight over seven innings. The White Sox offense provided the lefty with run support; Dayan Viciedo blasted a three-run homer, while Alejandro De Aza added a two-run shot. Addison Reed worked a scoreless ninth to record his career-high 30th save.

Tigers 6, Royals 5: Miguel Cabrera lifted a 3-1 fastball down the rightfield line in the bottom of the ninth inning, hitting a walk-off homer against Aaron Crow. Detroit took leads in the first, fourth and seventh innings, but Kansas City battled back to tie the game each time. The middle of the Tigers' lineup turned an impressive game as Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Victor Martinez combined for two doubles, two homers, two singles and five RBI.

Blue Jays 6, Rays 2: J.A. Happ won his first start at Tropicana Field since suffering a skull fracture after being hit by a Desmond Jennings line drive on May 7. The southpaw held Tampa Bay to two runs on five hits over 5⅓ innings. Adam Lind collected a pair of solo homers, while Jose Bautista connected on his 28th home run of the season.

Rangers 15, Mariners 3: The Rangers scored five runs in the second inning off Felix Hernandez as the Mariners ace continues to struggle against Texas this season. Herandez only threw five innings, surrendering five runs on five hits and five walks. Texas scored seven runs in the eighth inning, six against Oliver Perez to turn the game into a blowout.

Nationals 8, Braves 7 (15 innings): Adam LaRoche blasted a solo homer in the top of the 15th, helping the Nationals win a 5 hour, 29 minute marathon.

Jason Heyward smashed a two-run homer off Rafael Soriano in the bottom of the ninth, sending the game into extras. Stephen Strasburg was tossed from his first game after throwing a pair of pitches behind Andrelton Simmons in the second.

Padres 8, Mets 2: Will Venable led the Padres with four hits, taking advantage of a taxed Mets bullpen that had to throw the final five innings after Jenrry Mejia left with elbow discomfort. Nick Hundley smacked a two-run homer in the fourth, while Jedd Gyorko added a three-run bomb in the eighth. Edinson Volquez earned his ninth win of the year, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings.

Indians 7, Athletics 1: Ubaldo Jimenez carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, only allowing one run over 5⅔ innings while striking out eight. Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn each hit solo shots, while Asdrubal Cabrera went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Athletics starter Dan Straily has now lost five straight decisions since being recalled on July 20.

Angels 6, Astros 5 (10 innings): Josh Hamilton homered with one out in the 10th, sending an 0-2 pitch from Josh Fields into the seats for his 18th homer of the year. Mark Trumbo hit a solo homer in the second and plated two more runs with his first triple of the year. Ernesto Frieri tossed two scoreless innings for his first win of the season.
