Orioles searching for DH with waiver claims, according to report

Despite the fourth highest scoring offense in the MLB, the Baltimore Orioles still have holes in their lineup. Most notable, the team has the worst wOBA in the American League at designated hitter. After failing to make a trade at the July deadline, Baltimore is hoping to improve at the position through waiver claims, reports Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

The team has lukewarm interest in Twins first baseman Justin Morneau, says Rosenthal. Morneau had been talked about by several teams, including Baltimore, around the trade deadline, though nobody pulled the trigger on a deal. Morneau passed successfully through waivers last week, meaning he could be traded like normal.

The Orioles had also shown interest in a return of Mark Reynolds after he was cut by the Indians, but the Yankees signed him first.

Urrutia is one of five players to have played at least 10 games as designated hitter for Baltimore. Nolan Reimold (27 games), Danny Valencia (19), Steve Pearce (16), and Chris Dickerson (14) are the others who have seen significant time at the position. None has impressed enough to take the job full-time.
