Mike Trout injury: Angels OF leaves game with tight hamstring

Trout had reached base safely for the 40th straight game before being removed with tightness in his right hamstring.

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout exited Sunday's game early with tightness in his right hamstring, the team announced.

The Angels removed Trout from the game in the top of the sixth. Trout collected a single and a double in his first two at-bats, but flied out to center field in the bottom of the fifth during his third at-bat. Kole Calhoun replaced Trout in the lineup, moving Collin Cowgill from right field to center field.

Trout has been the best player on a disappointing Angels team, entering Sunday hitting .330/.429/.571 with 21 homers and 78 RBI in 557 plate appearances. He has also contributed with his defense and baserunning; Fangraphs credits Trout with 8.3 WAR, the highest WAR in the majors.

The outfielder's first inning single marked the 40th straight game that Trout has reached base safely. Two players have had streaks longer than 40 games this season: Michael Cuddyer (46) and Miguel Cabrera (44), according to ESPN Stats & Info.
