Dodgers to activate Brian Wilson

Wilson has not pitched in the majors since April 2012.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers will activate relief pitcher Brian Wilson on Monday, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Wilson threw a simulated game Friday, which was the last obstacle in to clear before a return to the majors. The reliever hasn’t pitched in MLB since April 2012 after undergoing the second Tommy John surgery of his career.

The former Giants closer discussed how he felt after the simulated game with Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times, telling the reporter:

“Everything’s good. Everything’s progressing. It’s a step, absolutely. Any time I get on the mound it’s positive. There’s progression.”

Los Angeles signed Wilson to a minor-league contract on July 30, beating out the Pirates and the Giants for the right-hander's services. Wilson is expected to slot in as a set-up man behind closer Kenley Jansen.

The Dodgers have not announced a corresponding move on the 25-man roster to clear space for Wilson. The team has options on relievers Paco Rodriguez and Chris Withrow, but could also send position player Scott Van Slyke to the minors and carry eight relievers.
