Alexi Ogando injury: Rangers pitcher placed on DL for third time this season

Ogando will be on the disabled list for the third time this season, as he has dealt with myriad injuries.

The Texas Rangers placed starting pitcher Alexi Ogando on the disabled list Tuesday with nerve inflammation in his right shoulder, reports ESPN.com.

This is the latest in a string of injuries in 2013 for Ogando. The DL stint is his third in the season after he missed time with shoulder inflammation and right biceps tendinitis earlier in the year.

When Ogando has been healthy, he has pitched effectively. Over 15 starts, he has a 3.47 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. Ogando was moved back into the rotation at the beginning of the year after a successful season of pitching out of the bullpen in 2012.

Ogando has received an injection and has taken oral medication to help aid his recovery. General Manager Jon Daniels said Ogando may not need a minor league rehab stint before his eventual return to the rotation.

Until Ogando does return, the Rangers recalled Travis Blackley to start on Tuesday and fill the hole in the rotation. Blackley was acquired just a week ago from the Astros after pitching in 48 games out of Houston's bullpen with a 4.89 ERA.
