After saying some stuff not-so-complimentary things about his manager of four years Tuesday, a day later Roy Halladay chose to clarify those comments, saying he never intended to denigrate Charlie Manuel’s managing capabilities and that he’d made up with the manager.
Roy Halladay backtracks from Charlie Manuel remarks
If Roy Halladay did have an issue with Charlie Manuel, he made it clear he didn’t intend to say it publicly, saying that he thought the recently fired Phillies skipper was “a great manager” and that he felt responsibility for a manager’s firing fell on the players.

Halladay had said that he felt Manuel had “overlooked” certain things and seemed to imply he thought the team would be better off with Ryne Sandberg in charge. But Wednesday when he spoke to reporters he said he had no ill will toward Manuel.
I called him today and talked to him about it. We’ve been in a lot of contact. I loved playing for him. He was a great manager. Everybody here loved him. The players loved him. And he was a lot of the reason they won the World Series here. I just want to make that point clear. I was also trying to say that I feel like if there was somebody that’s going to replace a guy like that then it’s going to be a Ryne Sandberg type of person with the experience that he carries and everything else.
”But I really felt like a lot was lost in translation with respect to Charlie. I just want to make that clear. I don’t endorse any manager’s firing. The players get managers fired. Any time a manager is fired as a player you feel like you haven’t done your job.
Regardless of how Halladay feels about his former manager, he certainly seems as if he didn’t intend to trash him in public, especially considering the year he’s having. Halladay has only pitched in seven games this year, has an 8.65 ERA and hasn’t pitched since May 5, so it would have been a little bit difficult for him to call out Manuel’s managing when he hasn’t even been around the squad day-to-day.
