Jonathan Broxton injury: Reds P leaves game with apparent injury

The Reds might lose their eighth-inning specialist to injury less than two weeks after he returned from a near-two-month stint on the DL.

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Jonathan Broxton left the team's game on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks with an apparent injury, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert.

For more on Broxton and the Reds, head over to Red Reporter.

Broxton allowed a solo home run to D-Backs outfielder Gerardo Parra and a four-pitch walk to catcher Wil Nieves in the bottom of the eighth inning before being pulled in favor of closer Aroldis Chapman, who entered Wednesday without a six-out save in his career.

The Reds rendered Broxton unavailable to pitch on Monday and Tuesday because of an elbow issue, notes MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon. The 29-year-old setup entered Wednesday with a 3.82 ERA in 30 ⅔ innings.

Broxton landed on the 15-day disabled list in June with an injury to his right elbow and didn’t return until Aug. 9. In four appearances before Wednesday, Broxton did not allow a run and notched five strikeouts in 3 ⅔ innings since being activated.
