Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully will continuing calling games through the 2014 season, according to Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times.

Baseball fans rejoice! Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully will remain in the booth for another season.

Shaikin reports the Dodgers will announce Scully’s return on Friday. 2014 will be his 65th season as an announcer for the Dodgers. The 85-year-old broadcaster told Shaikin, “I really still enjoy it immensely. My health is good, thank God. So why not? And my wife said, ‘Why not?’ as well.”
Apart from being a gifted announcer, Scully has become something of a national institution in his long tenure with the Dodgers. He began calling Dodgers games alongside Red Barber in 1950 when the team still played in Brooklyn and television broadcasts were still years away. At this point, after 64 years in the booth, Scully's popularity extends well beyond just Los Angeles and the Dodgers fan base at this point. Shaikin notes that online petitions to Fox to have Scully broadcast the World Series are likely to begin again soon following this announcement.
Scully’s return is particularly significant to the Dodgers at this point, since they will be transitioning to a new television home following their $7 billion deal with Time Warner Cable. Scully’s presence will be a huge asset to the team as they make that transition, providing fans with an unparalleled sense of continuity that reaches back to the days of Ebbets Field and Jackie Robinson.
