David DeJesus is "likely" to end up with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday either via a trade with the Washington Nationals or a straight waiver claim, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

The Nationals acquired DeJesus from the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later, but immediately put the outfielder back on revocable waivers. The Rays then placed a claim on DeJesus; the Nationals have until 1 p.m. ET on Friday to to pull him back off the wire, work out a trade with the Rays or allow Tampa Bay to take DeJesus and his contract.

DeJesus, a career .279 hitter, is batting .247/.327/.397 in 322 plate appearances this season. Tampa Bay already has a number of left-handed hitting outfielders in Sam Fuld, Matt Joyce and Kelly Johnson, but DeJesus can play all three outfield positions, and would give the Rays more depth.
Tampa Bay also attempted to bolster their bench by signing Delmon Young. Young, the Rays former first-round draft choice, is expected to join the team before the Aug. 31 post-season roster deadline.
