Neil Ramirez is the PTBNL in Matt Garza trade

Ramirez is the fourth and final player Texas sent to acquire Matt Garza from the Cubs.

USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs claimed Neil Ramirez off waivers from the Texas Rangers, completing the trade that sent Matt Garza to Texas, reports Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.

Ramirez, 24, has made 21 starts in Double-A this season, posting a 3.84 ERA over 103 innings with 127 strikeouts. The right-hander is the fourth player traded to Chicago for Garza, joining Mike Olt, C.J. Edwards and Justin Grimm.

John Sickels of Minor League Ball rated Ramirez as the 18th best prospect in the Rangers farm system during his mid-season update, writing:

Solid season, but he was in Triple-A last year and still needs to prove himself at that level. Possible mid-rotation guy if all goes well.

Garza has made six starts for the Rangers, going 3-1 with a 4.32 ERA. Olt and Grimm have both struggled for the Cubs Triple-A team; Olt is only batting .121, while Grimm owns a 5.46 ERA. Edwards has pitched well, posting 1.84 ERA in 4 starts for the Cubs High-A squad.
