Los Angeles Dodgers controlling owner Mark Walter said he would like to talk to Hanley Ramirez in the offseason about signing a contract extension to keep him in Los Angeles long term, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Hanley Ramirez contract: Dodgers interested in signing SS to extension
Ramirez is slated to become a free agent for the first time following the 2014 season. The Dodgers would like to extend him before then.

Ramirez is still under contract for one more season, but is slated to become a free agent for the first time at the end of the 2014 campaign. Ramirez will make $16 million next season.
“I think a guy like Hanley Ramirez, he’s a special, special player,” Walter said. “If you know where we could find five more, we’ll take them all. I don’t think there are five more.”
The Dodgers acquired Ramirez from the Marlins mid-2012 in the midst of a down year. The shortstop has experienced a resurgence in 2013, however, hitting .348/.395/.629 with 13 home runs over 63 games. He missed the first month of the season following surgery on a torn thumb ligament. Ramirez said he would be open to an extension.
“Definitely, because I want to stay here. I want to stay here forever.”
The Dodgers are also looking into signing star pitcher Clayton Kershaw to a long-term deal. The team has a nice core moving forward, with Zack Greinke, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Yasiel Puig all under team control at least through 2017.
