The Pittsburgh Pirates will be without outfielder Starling Marte for a while, as the team announced Saturday that he is headed to the 15-day disabled list with a hand contusion/sprain. Taking his spot on the roster will be Andrew Lambo, who is being recalled from the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians.

Marte, 24, has played in 118 of 128 games for the Pirates in 2013 and is the National League’s leader in triples with 10. He had been scratched from the Pirates’ lineup in each of the last five games for the team with what was called a sore ring finger on his right hand. Marte is batting .282/.343/.443 with 11 home runs, 33 RBI and 79 runs scored.
Lambo played four games with the Pirates earlier in August, starting three. A right fielder in each of his three starts, Lambo recorded just one hit in nine at-bats, with two strikeouts.
The Pirates are scheduled to begin Saturday night's game against the San Francisco Giants at 9 p.m. ET.
