Mauer out until Tuesday
Minnesota Twins starting catcher Joe Mauer has been told to "take it easy" until Tuesday, reports LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star-Tribune. Mauer went on the seven-day disabled list Aug. 20.
The Twins start a four-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, making Mauer unavailable for the entire series. The catcher had begun "light exercise" after undergoing evaluation at the Mayo Clinic.
Brown out with heel soreness
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown exited Saturday's game with right heel soreness, according to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia.
Brown struck out swinging in bottom of the first inning during his only at-bat of the game. The outfielder stayed on the field during the second inning, but was lifted for John Mayberry during the top of the third.
The left-handed hitter has enjoyed a breakout season for a mostly disappointing Phillies team, batting .276/.321/.522 with 27 homers in 420 plate appearances.
Aaron Hill suffers groin injury
Phillies second baseman Aaron Hill left his game Saturday in the seventh inning with what was reported to be groin soreness, according to AZCentral’s Nick Piecoro. No other information was available Saturday night.
Avila still dealing with headaches
Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila is still experiencing post-concussion headaches after sitting out Friday night's rehab game. Avila has been on the seven-day disabled list since Aug. 8.
Jim Leyland told reporters that the club does not plan on rushing Avila back. Bryan Holaday is the only healthy catcher currently on the Tigers' 25-man roster, forcing Victor Martinez to catch on Friday, his first appearance behind the plate since August 2011.
Saturday, Avila went 0-for-3 with a walk during a rehab start with Triple-A Toledo. He played designated hitter.
