The Kansas City Royals placed reliever Luke Hochevar on the paternity list Sunday, according to the team's official Twitter page. The team called up Will Smith from Triple-A Omaha to take his roster spot.
Royals’ Luke Hochevar placed on Paternity Leave List
Hochevar will have three games off as he awaits the birth of his first child.

With his placement on the paternity list, Hochevar can miss up to three games while he awaits the birth of his first child. Thus, he could return Aug. 28 at the latest.
The Royals will miss Hochevar’s arm in the bullpen. The right-hander has blossomed since switching from starting to relieving this season. Over 44 appearances, Hochevar has a 1.93 ERA and 0.89 WHIP while putting up career-high strikeout numbers.
Smith has been the Royals “yo-yo” reliever this season, moving up and down between the majors and Triple-A. With Sunday’s move, Smith has now been called up by the team seven times in 2013. He has made eight appearances for the Royals, including one start, and has a 3.27 Major League ERA.
