Avisail Garcia injury: White Sox OF leaves game after collision with wall

Garcia joined Chicago in the trade that sent Jake Peavy to Boston.

David Banks

Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia left Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers in the fourth inning after colliding with the outfield wall.

Jeff Baker hit a two-run blast off White Sox starter John Danks in the top half of the inning. Garcia drifted towards the fence, leaping straight into the wall as the ball landed in the Rangers bullpen.

More White Sox: Leury Garcia promoted

Garcia was helped to his feet and immediately removed from the game. Jordan Danks replaced Garcia, playing right field while batting sixth.

The White Sox acquired Garcia as the main piece in return for starting pitcher Jake Peavy this summer. The Red Sox received Peavy, sending Jose Iglesias to the Detroit Tigers, who sent Garcia to Chicago. John Sickels of Minor League Ball rated Garcia as the second-best prospect in the Tigers farm system.

The outfielder has performed well since the White Sox promoted him to replace Alex Rios, entering Sunday hitting .316/.361/.404 in 61 plate appearances. The 22-year-old has struggled with his plate discipline, striking out 12 times while only drawing three walks.
