The Cleveland Indians made the decision to shut down shortstop Francisco Lindor, the team's top prospect, for the remainder of the Double-A season, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The Indians placed Lindor on the minor league disabled list Aug. 19 with what had been described as a lower back strain. The team is confident that he will heal with rest, so the decision was made to keep him from baseball activities for the rest of the season, which has only one week left in it anyway. Cleveland does not believe Lindor will need surgery to recover from the injury.
Lindor, the eighth overall selection of the 2011 draft is still just 19 years old, but has already been named to Baseball America’s top-100 prospects list two times, coming in at No. 37 and No. 28 prior to 2012 and 2013, respectively. Lindor was MLB.com’s 14th-best prospect nationwide prior to the 2013 season.
The Indians promoted Lindor to Double-A Akron for the first time earlier in the year. In 21 games with Akron, he hit .289/.407/.395 with 14 walks to just seven strikeouts.
