Miguel Cabrera left Thursday's game with an apparent left leg injury, according to MLB.com. The Detroit Tigers third baseman came up lame after sliding into second base while trying to stretch out a double during the fifth inning against the Oakland Athletics.
The Tigers said that Cabrera left the game due to discomfort in his abdomen, though he appeared to grab his knee after the play. Cabrera was able to walk back to the dugout and eventually the clubhouse under his own power, though with a noticeable limp. The Tigers said that his availability is considered day-to-day.
Cabrera has dealt with abdominal, hip and back injuries this year, and appeared to injure himself earlier this month during his final at-bat against the Minnesota Twins on Aug. 21. He suffered an abdominal strain at the beginning of August, and may have aggravated it on the slide.
Cabrera is once again vying for a triple crown this season. He leads the American League in batting average (.357) and RBIs (130). His 43 home runs are currently second behind Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles.
