David Wright injury: Mets 3B strains right hamstring, MRI Saturday

Wright has been playing with a sore hamstring but aggravated the injury late in Friday’s game.

New York Mets third baseman David Wright is scheduled to have an MRI Saturday after straining his right hamstring in the 10th inning of Friday night's game against the Royals, reports the team's official Twitter page.

With no outs in a 2-2 game, Wright grounded a ball up the middle of the infield where it was picked up by second baseman Miguel Tejada. Tejada made a running throw to first, where a sprinting Wright began to limp just short of the bag and grabbed his right leg. Wright was safe at first when Tejada's throw went wide of the bag, but he was pulled for a pinch-runner. MLB.com has video of the play.

Wright has been dealing with a sore hamstring for a week. He felt tightness in the area in a weekend series against the Nationals, then again on Wednesday when his hamstring cramped in the ninth inning.

Earlier in the game Wright hit his 220th career homer, which tied Mike Piazza for second all-time on the Mets’ home run list.
