Jorge De La Rosa contract: Team option will be picked up, Rockies owner says

Though he missed the majority of the 2011 and 2012 seasons, De La Rosa has been pitching well this season.

Colorado Rockies owner Dick Monfort put to rest any questions about whether starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa would remain with the team following the 2013 season, saying Friday that the team planned on picking up the left-hander's 2014 option, reports MLB.com.

De La Rosa, 32, has been with the Rockies since 2008, when Colorado acquired him from the Kansas City Royals. De La Rosa signed a two-year contract worth $21.5 million in for the 2011-12 seasons that included an $11 million player option for 2013. Under the terms of the contract, De La Rosa’s exercising of that option gave the team an option for the 2014 season.

Through 22 starts in 2013, La Rosa has a career-best 3.21 ERA. He also has a 1.314 WHIP and has held opponents to a .692 OPS. In six years with the Rockies, he has posted a 4.22 ERA. De La Rosa made just 13 starts between 2011 and 2012 after suffering a torn UCL that required Tommy John surgery.

Monfort did not say whether the Rockies would also exercise options on relievers Rafael Betancourt and Matt Belisle.
