Carlos Gonzalez injury: Rockies OF may return to lineup Sunday

Carlos Gonzalez is still dealing with a finger sprain, but could return to the lineup as soon as Sunday.

Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is not likely to return to the Colorado Rockies lineup until Sunday at the earliest, reports Troy Renck of the Denver Post.

Gonzalez is coming back from a sprained finger. The injury kept him out of the starting lineup since July 30, though he has pinch-hit twice. When he first re-aggravated the injury, a stint on the disabled list was a distinct possibility. Rockies team trainer Keith Dugger, however, does not believe a DL stint would help the injury. Instead, Gonzalez is likely to play through lingering pain in the digit for the remainder of the season.

Gonzalez leads the National League with a .962 OPS and is hitting .302 with 26 home runs.

Corey Dickerson has been starting in left field with Gonzalez out of the lineup. He recorded three hits and a walk over nine at-bats since Gonzalez went down. Overall, Dickerson is hitting .286/.351/.429 over 22 major league games this season.
